DOUBLE OUT AND BACK

Not every woman who rides the fertility treatment roller coaster winds up like Octomom.

In Double Out and Back by Lisa Lipkind Leibow, three women's lives are intricately intertwined, as Amelia Schwartz and Summer Curtis struggle with the complex dynamics of intrafamily embryo adoption, and Chandy Markum strives to make her patients' dreams a reality.

After more than a decade, anal-retentive Amelia Schwartz finally stops mourning her parents and decides to pursue single motherhood via embryo adoption. Her fertility doctor, Chandy Markum, is preoccupied with the loss of the cosmopolitan Cape Town of her youth and her first love in apartheid-torn South Africa. Summer Curtis, Amelia's niece, a young, married, overachieving attorney, juggles zealous career ambitions, demanding bosses, and friction with her husband over family and fertility issues. They must confront the painful reality that, no matter what technology humans devise to manipulate reproduction, prolong life, and construct family units, they have not yet mastered control over their beginnings and endings.

Lisa Lipkind Leibow’s debut novel Double Out and Back is coming soon in 2009 from Red Rose Publishing. It is mainstream fiction with strong romantic elements.

“What do you want for V-day, sweetheart?”

Tori regarded her husband. He didn’t even look at her when he’d asked the question. Instead, he lazed in his easy chair with his feet up, clicking through the channels. She shouldn’t be upset at his dismissive behavior. Unlike most husbands, he’d actually remembered days in advance of the holiday instead of the day of. Christian was good at remembering anniversaries, birthdays, and the like.

“I want a boyfriend.” Some wild hair made Tori say what was on her mind, the thing she really wanted and had kept to herself for the past two years.

Her marriage with Christian was lukewarm. She couldn’t remember when the last time they’d had sex, but Christian could tell her the exact date if she asked. He only remembered stuff that concerned him.

That wasn’t to say she didn’t love her husband. He was the only man who could put up with her and vice versa. They were the perfect complete-each-other’s-sentences couple. On the surface, they had the type of marriage every couple envied with three kids who were mature beyond their years and a stable income. A dream come true except one thing…

“Ha ha. Now what do you really want?” He continued flipping channels.

“I’m not joking. I want a boyfriend.”

Christian looked at her. His smile vanished when he saw she wasn’t smiling. “What are you saying?”

“I just told you twice. For the third time, I want a boyfriend.”

“Is this about Samantha? I apologized. You forgave me. You said it was in the past and not to worry about it. Why after two years of forgiveness do you suddenly want a divorce?”

“I didn’t say I wanted a divorce. I said I want a boyfriend.” She felt like a broken record.

Her gaze strayed to the clock. They had an hour before the kids were due back from school. She hoped whatever theatrics Christian threw her way ended before they came home.

Christian switched the television off then stood and faced Tori. “This isn’t a funny joke. Or is this payback?”

“It’s neither. When was the last time we had sex, Christian?”

“Two years and three months ago next Friday.”

She knew it. He’d been counting, which meant the lack of intimacy had bothered him. She crossed her arms. “We don’t have a relationship anymore—not the kind married couples should have.”

“We can work at it.”

“I really don’t want to.”

That made Christian angry. His face contorted in rage and he paced away from her with an angry sound.

She wasn’t scared. Christian would never hurt her. He wasn’t the type of man to do that. That didn’t mean he wouldn’t put a hole through the wall or stab the couch with a kitchen knife.

“Christian, assuming I wanted to have sex, do you even want to?”

“Yes!”

“With me?”

“Of course! You’re my wife. We’ve been married ten years.”

“Then how come you were with Samantha on that Valentine’s Day two years ago?”

First Review: Acknowledging Meirion

Acknowledging MeirionAcknowledging Meirion has gotten it's first review from Mickey at Simply Romance Reviews.

"Ms. Renquest's sensitivity in writing the scenes between the pair keeps this book from being maudlin, and allows it to have the happy ending readers expect from a true romance. While not a light and frivoless romance, this is definitely a romance, and one well worth reading."

Review: With All My Heart

Named an Outstanding read by: Simply Romance Reviews

Dr. Jason Tucker is not a happy man. He has just spent seven sexless days with his girlfriend of six years, Lisa. The only bright spots in his life were his very imminent break up with selfish and needy Lisa, and his patient and woman who made his body ache, Rayne. Jason brings Rayne to the Roseport Rehabilitation Clinic where he works after Rayne runs into the street in front of Jason's car one stormy night six months ago. Since Rayne has amnesia, she has no knowledge if she is married, seeing someone or has a family that's currently searching for her. Jason breaks up with Lisa but Lisa is not going to let the man that she has plans to marry leave her for a patient. Rayne just wants to know who she is and if Jason's feelings are as strong as hers. Will Rayne's past destroy their future or will Lisa make sure that Jason pays for leaving and embarrassing her?

With All My Heart was like taking a romantic stroll along a winding garden path; very satisfying. Ms. Rochelle has a very distinct way of captivating her readers attention from the beginning of her story and holding on until the end. The relationship between Rayne and Jason was a true romance that seemed to be a race against the clock. Neither knew if Rayne would recover her memories or if their relationship would continue after Rayne was released from the Clinic. In the beginning of the novel, Jason seemed very passive. He didn't seem to want to take matters concerning Lisa and Rayne into his own hands until he was pushed into making the decision. Rayne was just the patient who really didn't know how she should would have acted in different situations. She didn't get feisty until Lisa confronted her alone. Lisa thought that Jason should continue to bow to her since she had given his six years of her life. She was the woman that you never wanted anyone that you cared about to meet. This novel was definitely a palate cleanser and a recommended read.

Bree turns out to be nothing like Jake’s ideal woman. So why can’t Jake stop pursuing the full-figured enchantress? Will Jake be able to tame his temptress?

Mini interview on Havana Holiday

My newest story is called Havana Holiday, set in 1930s Cuba, released through Red Rose Publishing.

Havana Holiday by Jennifer Mueller
Is it true, what happens in Havana stays in Havana? Five women are about to find out...or are they?

Five stories, 4 days, 3 nights, 2 times the fun, and 1 heck of a good time. Dahlia, Eve, Nora, Alice, and Marianne; when five women who work together in depression era Boston save up for a trip of a lifetime to decadent Havana, anything can happen. With seductive Latin men and rich vacationers at every turn who wouldn't enjoy dancing till dawn, the parties, the nightclubs, the beach, the gambling, and there’s always more than one side to a story.

Who can ask for more--fun, sun and hot men to tempt and tease?
http://redrosepublishing.com/bookstore/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=70&products_id=93
***

Where do you find your inspiration for your characters? Your settings? Your storylines?

I tell the story differently than most. It is five stories from the five women all telling about the same four day period. I actually wrote Eve's story as a stand alone, but was told it was too short for a publisher, so I went, well heck! There are four more women and all sorts of things hinted at but never explained because it was all Eve's story. In looking at all the resources, several mentioned the old guide books for Havana and so each of the women ended up with one of the entries as their theme. Eve is dancing, Dahlia is music, Marianne is gambling, Nora is naughty nights, and Alice is seeing the island. Their adventures all mingle together though. You can't read it thinking that they are all separate, characters pop up from one to another, plotlines too. Dahlia for instance is being followed and almost kidnapped, but only by reading the other stories do you find out the whole story.

How did you choose the 1930s for your story's setting?

I never wanted to write about the revolution and all that. With it still in essence being an issue, it seemed a hot topic. But 20 years before that, Havana was a decadent city, full of anything goes. It really is what leads up to the whole revolution in fact. Batista the president let the American mafia in to run the casinos because they had lost so much business due to becoming so corrupt, and no one wanted to go. Batista was living like a king on kick backs and profits from the mafia-run casinos, while most of the country had nothing, and they fought back. By the end of the 1930s, Havana was literally a mafia town. They held big meetings of different families even. It seemed a perfect time to really write a story.

What is the hardest part of setting a story in this time period?

Well there are all numbers of people alive today who would still remember the era. I was worried all the time that I would get something wrong and be told so. I found out I have a half Cuban woman on my Yahoo group and I asked her to look it over for the Spanish. When she was done she told me it sounded exactly like the stories her parents told her about the old country so I think I got it right and my Cuban slang should be authentic too.

Cassie's Sheikh

I have been posting on various websites today, and I took a look at amazon, UK and USA. I was amazed to find Cassie's Sheikh up at the USA site available on Kindle. I knew Wendi was putting her books up a few at a time but didn't really expect mine would be there just yet. I was thrilled to see it with the others, and so available. I am tempted to buy Kindle for myself but am not sure it would work in the UK. It may just be for American sockets as yet, but I am going to ask my IT man about it.

I have also found Cassie's Sheikh on Fictionwise. At the moment it is number ten in the Red Rose Publishing current list. I am not sure whether that means it is selling well or not. I shall have to wait and see. It was certainly nice to see it at amazon.

On the UK amazon they are now listing my Anne Herries and Linda Sole books together. I am not sure if this is a help to sales or not. I wondered what was going on at first, but I see that my mystery series is selling well. I have my fingers crossed for Cassie's Sheikh!

Best wishes to you all, Linda
